The colored faces
"Yakshagana" a popular dance drama in south of India is performed on request of devotees who have taken a vow (Harake) to arrange a show of Yakshagana for fulfillment of a desire or as a service. The drama is performed normally from the middle of November and ends on 25th of next May each year. The troop is booked for everyday performance during the period of these six months. The dance drama starts at 10pm till 4.00am in the morning.
The Yakshagana performers do their own makeup. The heavy face make-up is essential to depict the heavenly characters. The performers change their makeup and dress according to their roles in the drama.
